Hear Vinx radio interviewSunday, May 24th 2009 2:16AM
When Vinx was in Ann Arbor at the Ark in February, we sat down for an interview that I broadcast on my weekly radio show. It's mostly a political talk show, but I wanted to take the opportunity to introduce the world to his music and his magic. We used some of that interview along with some musical and live performance clips. You can listen to it online at declaringindependenceradio.com. The Vinx part starts about halfway through the hour long show. Hope you enjoy it as much as I did putting it together.
Back from Basic TrainingTuesday, March 10th 2009 3:02PM
Sorry I missed the festival in GA. I wasn't allowed to travel that far from the base we were at when they let us out. I'm back home and just ordered "Memoirs" and can't wait for the new Vinx music!
Come back to Massachusetts man - I have new fun people waiting to see you live!
I also just set up my laptop to be a mini studio and have got a lil firewire audio interface for your next gig! Should be great!

out of so many, you have literally been the first artist performing at the open eye that Ive ever been moved, mind impressed by. Thanks so much for coming to carrboro. Your work is so REAL.
Hi Vink! 2 years ago I saw you with my kids during the summer @ The Renaissance (now GM Headquarters) in Detroit. It was the first time I'd ever had such an enjoyable experience hearing a live artist. I bought your cd's on the spot! and still love listening to your music. On February 26th, my husband and I will be celebrating our 9th anniversary and we'll be taking the Hour drive down to Ann Arbor to see you perform at the Ark that night. Funny thing is I was telling a friend of mine to visit your Webpage and check you out, when I realized I had not done so in a while. I've been looking forward to seeing you perform again so my husband didn't have to ask me this year what I want to do for our anniversary, because we already have plans to see you. Now thats an gift I'll enjoy!
Much Luv,
Desi and Rob
What My Life NeedsMonday, January 19th 2009 5:07AM
At the start of this year, I find myself in a crouching position, convicted to launch off from the past, not quite prepared for the future...what I really need in my life...it all right here. One of the things on my things to do list is to sing this year. Really sing. And to learn to write my songs. I have written several and they came from my soul in times when they just couldn't be denied. I wish to learn to access that place in me more often. I just saw you at a small club in ATL a few months back. A gift to myself in the midst of a life full of hurt. What I have learned from listening to your music and reading your words, especially the ones about being special and being gotten only by special people resonates with me because I rarely "fit" but what I am is clearly God's wish for me so...it can't be "wrong". All this to preface "When is your next songwriters retreat?" and "What would a sistah have to do to get you alone?" No its not a solicitation :). I really need a mentor!aafroqweensanctuary@aol.com I love your music and you for bringing it here. God bless you.
reach out when you can would love for you to come

Hey Vinx--saw you on the Soul Cages tour and also at a clinic at the University of North Texas back in 1992/93. (where I was part of the the "chorus" singing with you on a couple of songs). I apologize that I was also the guy bugging you after the gig; I know you clearly needed to get out of there. One thing I remember is that I told you I was a keyboard player but I sing on the side and you said "Singing should never be a side thing." I've reconnected with your music lately and I'm glad you are still enriching us with your talents. I echo Dave in my request for you to come to Dallas sometime. Take care! God Bless....Dane

I saw you perform at the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta on June 6, 2008. You are truly amazing, thank you for blessing me and the Atlanta area with your refreshing sound. Keep doing what you do.
You are a quintessential artist who continues to find new heights in balancing craft and creativity, virtuosity and storytelling in such an enjoyable way for all who have the honour of sharing your journey.
Your bio makes you even more intriguing and I would like to know if you have a plan to come to Jamaica anytime soon. Your sharing in the local music scene would be rewarding for all. I'm sure you've got contacts, but if you need, just say so and doors will be opened.
I'd love the opportunity to meet Vinx, the man. Strictly positive vibes.
Continue to walk good when not soaring.
thanks for the love. i would love to come to Jamaica. i'm sure it would be a great trip for Vinx fans too. I don't have a venue there. Feel free to set us up we could all use the sun.... YA MON thanks for thinking about me... vinx

Hi Vinx,
Thanks so much for another amazing performance last night at Havana. I didn't know the first song you sang , but I loved it (will it be on the new CD?)! I also really enjoyed "Take Me Along." I hope I can make it to your show in Doylestown and not be too pregnant. I do think my daughter is a future fan because she kicked all night last night! Thanks for everything. Take care!

i had listened to vinx for over a decade....through many trials, tribulations, triumphs...at my wedding, conception of my daughter, while she was in utero, in the delivery room, during our bonding time, her first birthday, the day of my divorce. vinx is a part of our lives - - mine and my daughter's. rooms in my father's house has soothed me through a lot in my life. a couple of years ago, vinx played at the apache cafe in atlanta, georgia. and i took her...it was the highlight of her life. he let her get on stage with him and take a solo!! it was amazing and something she'll remember for the rest of her life. well, she's nine now and vinx will be in atlanta tomorrow. the club he's playing at has just informed me that she will not be able to attend....boo. we'll keep listening. keep being you vinx. we love you! d
I saw you perform when you came to the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA! I had never had the absolute pleasure to see you perform. Now I'm telling everyone about you. I was mesmerized, enchanted, enthralled and amazed by your performance. Imagine....one man standing alone and performing in such a way that it seemed like a multitude of talent was standing before me! You are amazing Vinx.
Love, Dyalelah
thank you, I needed that.

OMGosh!! the performance in Omaha was the GREATEST! I've been waiting for sooo long for you to finally return to the area, I knew without a doubt I would be there. Good thing too, it was wonderful. Took a friend of mine who had not been to one of yours and she promises to go with me every time you come local. Thanks Vinx for a good evening. L Y

Hi V: I'm your new biggest fan. I had the pleasure of meeting you at the Ark in Ann Arbor on March 14. I loved the show. You' re awsome. You have a wonderful sense of humor. You are funny, I love that. I envy you some much because you have been all over the world. That's a dream of mine. I've done some travel. I haven't been to Africa, but I want to go sooo bad. Not everyone has that desire, so it's difficult to find people to travel with. I was shock to read about what happened to your dad and your unfortunate experience with the fire. I'm just learning how your site works. I left another message for you under the on cable selection. I thought someone had erased it when I didn''t see it . I love the CD (the only one you had with you) I'm ordering all of your CD's. Grits and pate show a different side of your talent and of you. I find the songs very romantic and they really reach into your heart. WOW. I don't see anything scheduled for Michigan, but that's alright, I'll travel to see you. I like weekend getaways. Take care V. I'll be seeing you soon.
Been trying to come up with the perfect word for your performance at the Ark last night (other than amazing), and haven't been able to-I guess "indescribable" is the best I can come up with. Absolutely enchanted by the free-form scat/Vocalese opening. Think I';ve been waiting to hear you perform something like that and just didn't know it until it happened...
thanks Kat

"Where are all my septembers, all my septembers, aaall my septembers now" – Hey, hear you bumped into my dutch friend Corinne at some gig in NYC last week. Apparently, she brought you on a 10 yrs travel, back to when we hitch hiked with Jungle Funk through Switzerland. Sweet naive 19 yr old girls, those were the days etc. Anyhoo, when are you gonna come to Europe (and Oslo, or at least close by..) so that i can catch your sound once more? Also like to get a few pointers as to some of your latest music? My neighbour plays for a fine norwegian export called Beady belle and i remembered you by listening to their music, which is also why your name was brought up when Co and I spoke of you just minutes ago. Anyways dear, would love to hear from you! Big kiss, Jo(hanne) p.s. just remembered your sound tech: "Piccolo Vikingo"...he he.
Hi Jo! was great hanging with Co' she filled mein on everyones progress. will be nice to see you soon. v

Caught you at Trumpets in NJ last week, great show. Haven't seen you since SOB's in NY with Cassandra Wilson, and your mastery never ceases to amaze! My wife fell in love with your voice, she always hears me playing you around the house, but seeing you live sealed the deal. Hope to see you in the NY/NJ/PA area again soon... thanks for all the years of inspiration!
Enjoyed your show @ Bohemian Caverns, was hoping to hear "Man & Wife". Maybe I'll see in Sept @ Thearc.
Hi James... i'll be back at Bo Caverns july 2nd, hope to see you there... v

Hello Just wanted to say that in the former eastern europe communist block one cannot easily get to any artist from the US or GB but 9 years ago I came across an artist named Vinx and have liked him very much with everything that a human has got from God to enjoy music and want to say that I am sure I never stop being moved by his music.
(Only if I could invite him for some Beatles-accoustic guitar session with Slivovitze next time he will be performing in PRAGUE)
Dave in DallasWednesday, February 13th 2008 4:33PM
Hey Vinx,
I've been a huge fan of yours since I was a DJ on my college radio station in '92. Every time we'd play "Kinda Surprised" the phone lines would light up - everyone wanting to know who that was. "I Love My Job" is my favorite album and is in constant rotation on my iPod.
Anyhow, any chance you'd make it to Texas? Dallas would be great, but I could live with Houston or Austin. I'll keep my eyes open.
Keep making the great music that you do, Dave

It looks like several people had problems getting "Memoirs" including myself. Now it's not even listed on your site. What is the dealio???
I requested "Memoirs..." for a Christmas gift. My sister ordered the gift set on 12/22. On 1/22 the funds were returned to her from her PayPal account. Nobody from your camp ever processzed the order. S'up? When shall I ask her to reorder?
While I have your attention... I have seen you live over 15 times in about 12 years. I am now wheelchair bound and am unable to see you in the last three venues that you have/will appeared in the Baltimore/Washington DC area as they are not accessible. I am requesting that you appear in a DC venue that I will be able to see you, as I need my Vinx fix.

Long time listener, first time blogger. (not really)
Hey Vinx - how goes it man?
Quick two part question for you: When you write a song, I assume that you have something in mind - something that it's about that you are trying to express.
Would you prefer that someone 'got' exactly what it was that you set out to say?
Or if someone got something else out of your music, is it enough for you to have moved them even if it wasn't in the manner you originally intended?
Friday, November 16th 2007 11:51AM

Hi, I met you last week looking for Max. I have over 200 original songs. Would u be interested in listening to a few? I promise, they r not trash or amateur. There are a few that could be radio ready after re-recording, and a little re-arranging. I do not have a vocalist however. U can call Max and he'll confirm I don't write junk.

Peace to You,As usual your performance last night was reviving. Wish I had gotten a picture afterwards. I intoduced my wife to your work at the Apache'. She wasn't prepared for what she experienced. Vinx! Many years ago you played in Chicago when I was in college. A friend had convinced me to go see you play. I ditched class and missed a test that hurt my grade BUT I don't regret at all. In fact, I'm glad i missed it. That was 13 years ago. Curious to know what you've been up to. I found your website, read tour dates and BLOG only to find I missed your performance in Detroit. arghh! I have joined the mailing list to prevent missing another opportunity. I need to show my boys what singing is really about! Not many shine like you Vinx - Peace.

I am from Michigan, and several years ago youplayed at a bar and mymom met my stepdad there. After that we listened to you a lot. Well a few years ago we went to a show in Ann Arbor, and my mom had you sing Porchlight and wish me a happy birthday. It was one of the bestthings ever... thank you for being a part of that.
this is the best part of my job... vinx

Vinx,
Heard your music for the first time a couple weeks ago on a road trip and I fell in love with the first note. I live near Baltimore and missed your VA concert due to an early flight the next morning. The next time you're in the area I'm there. Keep doing what you do...it's hypnotic!
Sorry I had to leave your show @ Manhattan's inToledo without being able to tell you how muchmy husband and I enjoyed your performance. It was wonderful to hear your music live again after 15 years. I hope you'll be coming up north again in the near future. Take care....
please stay in touch.... i hope to return to Toledo... v

Vinx:I'm glad you are feeling better. I live in Columbia, SC and I wanted to know with you being so close why don't you ever do any shows here. I was introduced to your music when I was about 16 and I absolutely loved it! I am 30 now and can't seem to find anyone who appreciates your talent as much as I do. I remember you doing a show here a LONNNG time ago at the Koger Center and I attended. Made me love your music even more. Please come back soon or at least come to Augusta! You are truly REAL MUSIC.
i don't have a venue in Columbia, i'll look into finding a good place there. v

Hello Vinx, I first heard your music when I was in college in 1996 or 1997. I love your music and I am looking forward to seeing you for the first time in November. I live in NJ but I will definetely be at the show. Even though I love all your albums, my favorite is "Rooms in my Father's House" Unfortunately, I lost the album a few years ago and I have tried to get a copy ever since but I cannot find it anywhere - Why is that?
i have a few left... e-mail me at stankfishstudio@aol.com .....thanks for the love Vinx

Vinx, it was wonderful talking with you last night at Gibson's. As always, you were incredible. The atmosphere was cozy & conducive to such songs as "Touch My Heart" (one of my favorites) . . . felt it ... truly. It's always a pleasure to hear you live... feeds the soul. :-) Stay well. Angela

Hey, Vinx- So happy to see you are feeling better and back on tour. Will you be performing in the ATL anytime soon? We'd love to come out and see you and show our support! Still sending thoughts and prayers your way!
Vinx, I am Amy Stricklin's other musician, actually her fiance'. I havnt gotten to see you live, but Amy has been talking about you for years. I love your music. We will see you this November in Memphis. Looking forward to meeting you.
I first saw you at the Berkeley High Auditorium, making me forget all about Sting. I missed you at Bimbo's because I was only 20 and three quarters. I missed you in 2003 because I had to be in Nevada. Please come back to the Bay Area so I can show you off to all my friends! We've got a whole lot of love left to give you here in Oakland/Berkeley!
hi Molly.... that was my very first show with Sting..... i just love the Bay area.....vinx

P.S. Put an update on the myspace site. Let those folks know you're OK.
Looked for the Soul Kitchen site and it was down and I got worried. when I went to the myspace page I got scared. Now that I finally got around to this site and see that you are touring again I'm excited!
My Allah bless you and keep you safe. See you in the apple (NYC) next week.

Hi Vinx! I saw you when you were touring with Sting and became an instant fan. (I don't know what happened to the three cds of your I had, but I could kick myself!) This week I was remembering...and thought "I need Vinx on my iPod!" Several downloads later, and I'm a happy lady! Glad you're still recording - and still awesome!
Small Musical World Moment: I thought I would introduce my boys' drum teacher to your music. Wrong. I asked him if he had heard of you and he said "Vinx?! Oh yeah. I used to play with him!" Eric Boseman is his name... I knew we had a great teacher -but his credibility just shot even higher! ;-)
AFTER QUITE A FEW YEARS, I AM SO GLAD FOR FINDING YOU AND YOUR SITE. HOPE TO SEE YOU PERFORM IN NYC THIS SUMMER. IF THAT PRIVATE ENGAGEMENT IN NJ BECOMES AN OPEN AFFAIR PLEASE DROP ME AN EMAIL. GOD BLESS
Hey man - all fourteen hundred millionty jillion of us are happy and thrilled that you'll be around for some more Vinx music making. I myself cannot wait for some Boston action up here! Prayers answered and whatnot. I must admit that I danced a little jig when I read the good news. (no small feat in a computer chair I tell you!)
So since you have 65 tracks (I'd be up for an all-new box set by the way) How about some alternate mixes/remixes of some of those tunes. Or even better yet, put up some of your songs in track format (gigantic zip files?) and let people play with remixing your stuff?!
I know I played years back before we met with adding some stuff to some of my favorite Vinx tunes using ACID years ago. My two cents for something new and cool on the Vinx front. :)
Glad to see you up about and making sonorous noises once again.
~Wim
i think i may narrow it down to 50 songs and release it on my 50th birthday......what do you think? v

as belinda says below, we adore you too. therefore when you hit detroit in june, i'll be at the performance, checking on you & making sure that you're taking care of yourself (just the caregiver thing kicking in, ya know?)
i give you permission to take care of me.... thanks
WE ADORE YOU TOO......I think it was Benjamin Franklin that said "people act in a reflective way" Because you share your music with us, we share our love with you! Look around you, you have friends ( that you may or may not have met, nonetheless, friends ) who care for you and share your feelings and rejoice with you in your happiest moments and are sad in your toughest times. You know, when I'm feeling overwhelmed, no one can say it better than what your fatha said to you..."you can't run very fast carrying such a heavy load" then I remember to let it go - just let it go... and allow God...I will continue to say prayers for you. Love ya bunches!... Belinda ~ Atlanta
thanks for the reminder.... i need to listen to a bit more of my fathers wisdom......v

Vinx ~~ Come on now, you know how diversity affects health. Take the bp meds, check for diabetes and high cholesterol and have your kidney function checked!
You are an Olympic-trained athlete....get back to it. Try water aerobics, it's easier on your body in case running has caused you injuries and pain over the years.
Remember, 50 is the new 30!! Take special care. I have been a fan for a long time and would like to continue!! Peace and be well, Wendy
if could swim better i would.... thanks for the love....v
My Dear Vinx, I was troubled to hear about your recent health crisis. Thank goodness you are recovering and have the support of friends and family to assist you. You know that you are loved by your fans but first and foremost, it is necessary for you to truly look after your health and manage your stress levels. We are all here for you and will wait for your health to return. Please take this time to recuperate and do not rush the process. I know your creative spirit will call on you to "carry on" as usual. But you may need to use your creativity in other ways now. Use this time for reflection, healing, letting go of old wounds and creating a new life vision for yourself. I truly believe when we have crisis and tragedy in our lives, that these experiences are "gifts" and give us the opportunity to let go and make changes for personal growth. Please let your body and spirit rest so that you will be renewed and invigorated to carry on with your musical vision when you have healed. My thoughts, prayers and positivity are with you.
With love, Jo-Anne from Toronto, Canada
thank you Jo-Anne, your words did have an effect.... v

Dear Vinx Just want to say that I could not give a measure to my cheers AND sentiment if I could be at your another performance again. THERE IS NOTHING LIKe youR music in the world.
ALSO WANTED TO PASS message TO ALL staying in PRAGUE 18.12.2006 that would like to see Living Color in concert.
You know, Vinx, at 6:50 this morning, I get on the bus I always take, and was surprised to bump into the guy (haven't seen him since 1995 or so) I went to Sting's show in 1991 with, the very show at which I was enlightened to the magnificence of your groove. And I realized that I hadn't let you know that your visit to Chicago on Sept. 8 was lovely, it was good to see you again. I only wish more people had come. I don't get it - the Hothouse now has a 200 person capacity, I bought 8 tickets myself. Doria was cool, too. Thanks for having her with you.
I'm still curious if you've taken a look yet at the DVDs I brought for you, and what you think of them. Last weekend, I saw the "Acoustic Africa" show in Chicago, and Dobet Gnahore, from Cote D'Ivoire, she would be great for your festival in Ghana. Take a look at the Putumayo site to learn more about her.
Finally, I will hope for you to come to Chicago again soon, and I'm still putting the word out! A bientot.
Jackie JoiceSunday, November 5th 2006 2:56PM
Vinx, I have a very important question regarding your song "Worship Her". Can you please email me asap ! thanks
(that's a medical term which means inflammation of the Vinx)
I sat down to do some extended computer and website work for the day and decided to throw together a quick playlist to give me something to listen to for the next few hours.
I went to my music (all 600 or so of my cd's ripped to my computer) and began to pick out songs here and there. Some Van Halen, some Thelonious Monk, a bit of Matchbox 20, Christian McBride, Miles Davis and Mighty Mighty Bosstones thrown in for good measure.
Then it happened.
The V's
I open the V folder under "My Music."
I try to pretend as though I'm really here for Van Halen or Stevie Ray Vaughan (ooh - I WILL add some Sarah Vaughan while I'm here though) but...I finally end up at the Vinx folder.
I resolve to only add my favorites. Stuff I *really* want to hear now.
*sigh*
Make that a 3 1/2 hour playlist.
2 full hours of Vinx music.
Does this qualify as guilty pleasures?
Is it an addiction?
I can't say as I really care right now. Heartbreak just kicked in and I'm gonna need my hands to madly drum along on my desk to the UH! UH! UH! UHUHUHUH!!! parts!
Susan from Geneva to AtlantaThursday, October 26th 2006 5:56PM
Hi Vinx, I met you at the Lugano Jazz Festival back in '91 and when I met you in NYC a couple of years ago and mentioned it you, you said it was one of your favorite performances. Mine too. I am writing to say that I have begun saving up to have you sing "Touch My Heart" at my wedding. This song and you, have touched me like no other artist ever. Period (and that includes my former all-time favorite Stevie Wonder). Please keep on doing what you're doing and I will definitely be donating and am dead serious about my wedding. Please advise further. With much love and respect to you and yours. How far are you from Atlanta? I would love to come and visit.
hi Susan, it would be a pleasure to sing on that day for you. I live about 2 1/2 hours from Atlanta... when are you coming? vinx
SchleWednesday, October 25th 2006 10:07AM
Dear Mr. Vinx, after my recent question I turn to You with a request for advice and help. At the concert in Uherske Hradiste You have, beside other instruments, played on conga drums. It was not only Your musical expression, that fascinated me but also the wide range of musical possibilities of this instrument. I am interested in how do Yyou record the sound - either by microphone or some other recorder /eventually what kind or brand do You reccomend to use/, how do You process the sound after recording, which sound effects processors do You use. To say it simply I would like to understand the path of Your sound from the beat on a drum membrane to the output of a speaker - the technical part of the thing. I learn to play percussions only a few years now and I have beloved the Arabian goblet drums. of course I do not avoid any other percussions. For more reasons I would like to play alone, but I am not able to play more instruments at one time. I see that its possible to record more tracks and play them at one time as one complete unit. While playing just live its not possible, but still I want to keep the free improvisation which I go for most. Unfortunatelly in Czech Republic the percussions have almost no traditions and origin. Yes, you can find many good musicians here, but none of those can use the instrument so masterfully as You do. I am finding it hard to play music without being technically educated, therefore I have decided to ask You for Your kind help. Thank You very much in advance, wishing You all the best. Regards, Peter "Schle" Chaloupka
hi Peter.... try the digitech Jam Man Looper/Phrase Sampler.... this should do the trick for you.....let me know if I can help in any way....Vinx

Many years ago, the actual time escapes me, you performed at the Cape Cod Melody Tent for WOMR, there was a hip, young gal dishing out jambalaya who told you that you were one of her favorite artists in the world. You asked her "where are you from?" She answered " right here on Cape." You then asked her " No what planet are you from?" Well, that was me. I still chucke about that and you are still one of my favorite artists in the world. I just saw your show at Passims, fantastic! Each time I see you perform I bring new blood with me and each time you convince them with your energy. Myself and my friends all believe that your music agrees with us on all levels, especially on a vibrational level. You bring us to places that are so very comfortable, even if the song is A Little Bit More. Which helped me get over my Dads passing. Thank you for that. See you next at Passims, I am trying to get to Natik also. Ta.
i do Remember.....how are you? thanks for all the years of love ... I am only human i need the love......Vinx

Vinx loved the shows in Georgia. Both of them, it was a long night but worth it. The CD is wonderful, my class in SC love the beat and we have played it twice since my return to SC. Looking forward to the next show in this area. Again worth the 2 1/2 hour drive. Until next time .... Keep doing what you do ...
that was huge that you came so far to hear me. it was great to meet you in person and thanks so much for the love....Vinx

Hi, Vinx- Caught you at the Jam for a Cure concert- I am sorry that there was such a poor turnout and multiple sound system problems. My guess is that they did not do enough advertising so probably a lot of people didn't even know about the event. We drove an hour and a half to see you and thought you did fabulous as always. Just wanted you to know you had some diehard fans there! Look forward to seeing you again the next time you play in Atlanta. Take care- Melanie
Boy was it hot there or what. The people there were very nice to me. I hope they have great luck with the next year and beyond. i was honoredm that they chose me for the first fundraiser and I would do it again (great foundation). Thanks so much for coming..would have been lonely without you....Vinx

That was a cool show in Boston - way different vibe than the last one as all the Berkley students were there - but cool nonetheless. About 8 of my friends got to see you for the first time and you have that many more that can't wait for the next show - we're checking out the Natick deal now and seeing about a group trip there :D
So torn at that last request man I gotta tell you - I shouted out "Jimmy Said" where all the students joined in. I *really* wanted to hear you do "Traffic Jam" but I also wanted my buddy (we've been listening since '93) to hear "Jimmy Said" 'cause that is a SWEET jam man.
Keep 'em rolling in Vinx!
Hey Wim! hows my favorite student (well one class anyway)?

you know I love Toronto.... this time I have 3 days......see ya'll soon Vinx
When I saw you supporting Sting in his Nothing like the sun tour in Helsinki -88 I guess it was, I was just amazed, how could ONE MAN with some acoustic drums put over 8000 people, from whom the most hasnt heard anything about him before including me, "totally on their knees". I have never before or after that heard crowd booing so much when concerts SUPPORTING act finishes his set and the house lights were put on. People were just wanting so much more.
I have been your fan since that and I still am. Its just so sad that its almost impossible find your records here in Finland. I have Rooms..., I love..., The Storyteller & Big nround, which I found from Sweden. I also got Jungle Funk and I still am angry to myself, because I didnt notice that you were playing here in Finland back then
Thank YOU for doing such great music and giving at least to me really good memories. I just hope that I could someday see you playing live somewhere.
Hi Risto, how are things in Suomi? I love Finland I hope to come back to Pori Jazz soon.... I would love to find a nice intimate venue in Helsinki, any ideas? thanks for the love Vinx

I sent this in as a comment via email and then I found the blog. How cool! Reposted in its entirety (typos edited though):
Vinx,
I was elated to find you are coming back to Kentucky in your latest mailing. I was sure I had seen the last performance you would ever do in our state in Lexington. That was certainly an interesting night at Natasha'a cafe. I remember seeing you sitting at a table alone while the other acts were on stage. I was sad when I learned they hadn't provided the right equipment for you to properly hook up your drum to really blow away the crowd (which you still managed to do in my estimation). You were very gracious when I approched you and sat right down at your table and started up a conversation. I'm passionate about the music I listen to and to be able to shake your hand and take away your autograph with a once in a lifetime conversation to boot was incredible. I'm greatly looking forward to your return to our humble little state and I hope this time you leave with much better memories of it so that you return sooner. To that end, I want to make sure that you pack the house here in Louisville. If there is anything I can do to raise the awareness and get people to come experience a truly gifted artist, I'm all ready to do it. You've shared your gift with the world and all I want to do is to help a few more people discover that gift and return a little of your gift to you. Please feel free to contact me and let me know what might be done besides spreading the word and dragging my friends out on a Wednesday night.
Warm regards, Kurt Korfhage kmkorf at iglou.com
hi Kurt. I remember Lexington.. thanks for reminding me.... well lets hope some one shows up to Louisville.... I am trying to develop nnew markets.... so I don't know what to expect..... see you there we'll hang.....Vinx

Frog Island Festival, outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, early '90's. I too was a college jumper. We spent the evening talking about your music and your father and the fact that there were no arrests. I was a defense attorney in Detroit, now an actor/attorney in Detroit. You probably don't remember any of this, but your music has been with me all along, though it has been hard to keep up. I'll see you the weekend of the 18th in NYC.
Hi Jill I do remember, I don't talk about my Dad to many people... it will be great to see you in New York......thanx for the love Vinx
Hey Vinx, looking forward to the Chi show in September. Will for sure be there in support and would be honored to lay down some bottom end support on a couple tunes that evening too. Holla back, Coleen & Grace's friend Vic.
hi Vic remind me before the show to call you up, that will be fun..what songs do you know? vinx

Peace.

Vinx..... Caught you at the String Cheese show at Radio City.... That was hot.... Thanks for coming out...

Good to hear Colleen - keep it up! :) If I run into you singing it somewhere, I promise to join in!
Now it's time for a bit of Vinx trivia Jeopardy style.
You've just chosen Vinx for 1,000.00
A: This is greater than twelve thousand, seven hundred eighty.
Q: What is the number of seconds that a person stuck in route 128 rush-hour traffic can listen to Vinx's 'Pat' cd on repeat without getting tired of it?
You see my fellow Vinx-enjoyers, I did some (semi)scientific (quasi)measurements and based on initial completely (un)laboratory testings was unable to determine an upper limit at which one grew tired of listening to some Vinx tunes in what would otherwise be a relatively stressful environment.
Yep - nasty Boston traffic Vinx on the Nissan's tunebox = an almost passable two hour and seventeen minute experience which they substituted (along with Folger's crystals) for my normal drive home.
Results? The Folger's crystals were no replacement for my standard Dunkin Donuts fare. The music was great and will outlast your Extra when it comes to enjoyment. The drive would have been alright had my air conditioning not chosen that particular ninety degree day to quit...well...conditioning.
Now if only Vinx did a version of that Traffic Jam song...
I love that song....damn this traffic jam, how i hate to be late.....vinx
ColleenFriday, July 21st 2006 11:37AM
Wim, this is a bit tardy, but I'm responding to your inquiry. I sing Vinx out loud walking down any street in Chicago, on the L train, wherever I am. I don't care if I can't sing or what anyone things of it - in fact, people give me disapproving glances often when I'm singing along with Vinx! Torn, Armida, Please come Back are the favorites, but all of them thrill me!
I attended the show in DC at THEARC. It was GREAT!
The venue was new, contemporary and the dcor was lovely, the acoustics in the auditorium was top notch, the seating was comfortable and cozy, yet spacious and every seat in the house was a good seat. Parking was ample and FREE (and you know that is a rarity in DC).
This was my third time seeing Vinx (once in NY at Fishbones and once in DC at Takoma Station) the show was done in true Vinx style...they kicked us out! We were there so long and until I noticed the moderator motion to Vinx (while he was still on the stage) that we were out of time! He is truly a performer who loves what he does and it shows.
There was a jam session where he free-styled impromptu with the band and the spoken-word artist that came on before him. It was like watching your grandmother make a cake from scratch! He orchestrated a little piano, then a little trumpet, mixed two female vocalists, pinch of guitar, a generous helping of Djembe, then toped it off with his lush resonance and it was pure magic!
I was there with a friend who is from Nigeria and had never heard of Vinx. He kept saying That's a REAL African Drum and He is a REAL African Drummer. He said Vinx played just like they do back home.
It was such an immensely wonderful night and in the words of Moondance the show was fantabulous. Vinx ended the show so aptly with Porch Light, the lyrics made me feel nostalgic and wanting more Vinx.
Porch Light is on again, later than usual-- Porch Light is on again, are you waiting for me?
Ah, now that's the stuff a grand show is make of!
Love You Vinx!
This Is why I make it do what it do. thanx for the love....Vinx

Always loved your music and glad to see you're still going strong. A few years back there was talk of you doing some work with Stanley Clarke, Joe Satriani and Stewart Copeland. Is there any chance of that coming to fruition?
Mr. Vinx, Some time ago I have seen, but chiefly heard a concert of Jungle Funk in the city Uherske Hradiste in Czech Republic. It has been a phenomenal experience for me, for which I am happy until these days - especially the way and the style of your percussion play . And this is, with the expressing of gratefulness, the reason why I am writing to you. If it is not in secrecy or does not bother you, I would like to know which musical instrument, technical device and sound effects do you use for your play. My reason is very simple, while learning and playing the Arabian percussions, I would like to use the opportunity of modern technology and electronics. And it is your way of playing, that fascinates me so much, that I presume to ask you for help. I shall be honored to hear from you and appreciate any advice.
email me and I'll help you any way i can......vinx
katMonday, July 3rd 2006 8:43AM
aim ... i plan on attending the ann arbor show in sept. too -
and yes, i too have the guilty pleasure of belting out vinx tunes in my car. in fact, i like to say that vinx helped me obtain my masters degree. i was working full time, and traveling I-75 from downtown detroit to troy, mi (where the school is located). and if anyone knows rush hour traffic on 75 at that time of day, you know what i went through in terms of the time it took to get from point A to point B (whew!).
anyway, vinx was in the cd player (all day/everyday ... rotating the first 3 cds) and i was happily singing at the top of my lungs (windows shut people). pretending to harmonize in the background (thinking i sounded good, but you know ...)
made the commute so much more bearable, drivetime was nonexistent (i really think my car knew the way by that time, cuz sometimes it seemed as if i got to my destination without really doing anything consciously), and i would arrive relaxed and ready to meet the challenge of a night class, after a long day at work.
so vinx, thanx for the support. although you didn't know about it, you were right there with me, helping me with this tedious commute, and making life a lot brighter for me!
you get the honorary VINX DEGREE. put that on your resume...vinx
cherylSunday, July 2nd 2006 10:19PM
touch my heart is my all-time favorite and i blast it in the car and pretend that i can sing.
I AM SO HAPPY TO HAVE A NEW MANAGER, RALPH JACCODINE. AS YOU CAN SEE, HE HAS BEEN BUSY ORGANIZING MY CAREER AND GETTING NEW PRODUCT AVAILABLE TO YOU. THERE ARE MORE GOOD THINGS TO COME. I NEED YOU ALL TO PUT THE WORD OUT ABOUT THE RE-SURFACING OF THE VINXMON. TOGETHER WE CAN SHAKE UP THE WORLD. MY MYSPACE SITE IS UP. IF YOU ARE INTERESTED.
hi Wim, make me blush. it has been interesting teaching. After so long of just doing it has all been instinct and experience. Imagine me trying to make sense of it all. It seems that the youngsters are not so in tune with the craft. Most have a short attention span (fast food) and many students were more concerned about how they looked versus how they sound (blame it on MTV). But this is my mission... to connect them each to their unique-ness. My performances, studio workshops and drum circles are all in the context of teaching. if you want to audit a class reach out to Ralph. love you man..... Vinx
WimTuesday, June 20th 2006 10:40PM
Ever since that show in Boston about two months ago, I've been on a renewed Vinx kick.
Live.
Everything I'd hoped for and so much more.
I've seen multimillion dollar productions, been to topnotch performers and seen great shows. Not a one held a candle to sitting in that intimate venue and feeling that music.
In a word Vinx: Wow.
No wait....wow, wow, wow and THANK YOU!
For years, when people ask that question when they've got nothing else to talk about I've had the same answer.
Wim's Friend: Hey Wim, what kind of music do you listen to?
Wim: Um...I'm kind of all over the place depending on my mood. Could be rap, electronica, classic rock, some country, classical, thrash metal...*shrug*
(here comes that question)
Wim's Friend: Well, then who's your all-time favorite.
Wim: That's easy - Vinx.
Wim's Friend: I've never heard of them, what kind of music do they play?
Wim: It's a he - and my friend, do I have a treat for you!
*cue moondance*
I first heard Moondance at a party about a bazillion years ago and it hooked me. I like to bring others in through the same Vinx gate whenever I can.
For the record - I think that "Please Come Back" has supplanted Vaughan Monroe's "Lucky Old Sun" as my favorite song to sing wherever whenever. Gorgeous melody.
Thanks for the great music brother. May more come to us through you.
I'm considering making the drive from Baltimore to see your show this summer. How can I order tickets from the Berklee School.
Hi Troy, i'll be in DC July 20. That is closer. I'm looking forward to taking off my Professor hat. thanks for the love...Vinx

Hi Vinx,
Glad to see that you have a new CD out. Can't wait to listen to it.
Others have requested, so let me add to it as well, I would love for you to come back to TO. It was a blast to be able to hear you live and in the flesh again and such a treat to talk to you afterwards.
I may drive down from Mtl to see you in Cambridge on Aug 11th.
Have a great summer in Boston.
Hi Josee.... would be great to see you in Boston... I am planning a TO. show early September after Detroit... trying to find the right venue. see you out there..Vinx

Hi, Vinx- Sorry that museum situation went so badly. We felt there was something not-quite-right going on there. We promptly requested our money back as did others that were there. Can't wait to see you when you're back here! Take care-
Melanie in Georgia.Saturday, May 20th 2006 10:34PM
Hi,Vinx- I absolutely love your new website! I have been a fan since 93- have all your CDs. I got to meet you at the Montreax Jazz Festival in 98 in Atlanta. Your early CDs helped me immensely especially through the death of my mother in 94. Thanks for what you do!
My boyfriend and I tried to catch you several months ago at a Museum performance in Atlanta, but they told us you weren't coming... they didn't offer any explanation. We really missed seeing you. Have you ever considered playing at the Variety Playhouse- its one of my favorite venues in ATL. Much love to you and your's-
i was told by the museum that the show was cancelled 3 days before the show. I was very dissapointed I had planned to display my latest paintings. I am more upset that they took money for pre-paid tickets and did not offer reason or except any responsibility. In my entire 32 year career i have never missed a show. I love what I do and those who support me in my quest. I have not played the variety in years. Once I find a great performance venue in Atlanta I'll begin to play there on a regular basis. please stay tuned. thanx for the love.... Vinx
WalterFriday, May 12th 2006 4:57PM
Vinx,
Any plans to play NYC in the near future? We (my wife and our friends and family) were not able to make your last appearances due to conflicting obligations.
Looking forward to seeing you perform again.
Walter & Lisa (your personal finger taping Nurse)
I remember and thank you. I was in so much pain, but the show must go on. I hope to be in NY this summer so stay tuned. thanx for the love Vinx

hey vinx!!
i was at that majestic show too! an amazing performance ... glad i was there to witness it.
and to rick ... i agree with vinx's suggestions to you. use your parents as inspiration for your work. maybe start by viewing photos of them or use the photos to start a painting or collage. it may help you during your healing process. i'm sorry for your loss, and hope you find the peace you seek.
I love it when you guys take care of each other. It makes me feel like Vinx folks have a lot in common. shine on! Vinx
i have admired your talants on the mic along with you percussional skillsfor a long while now.
I first of you on "the Electivifying Mojo Show" in Detroit, mi back in the late 80's on either WGPR or WJLB (i forgot which one), as he always played "temporary ilove" on the radio...i was instantly hooked....
i ran to the store and got "in your fathas s' house" tape and was blown away to say the least
I had came to one your performances in detroit at the majestic cafe in the early 90's , excepting a full live band and when i got here the stage was empty accept a couple of mics and percussions, but came you on stage and gave one of the best concerts that i have witnessed....all of this done live with no electric instrumants....(i even met you and said how much your voice reminded me of the late great luther vandross
but, the real reason why i am writting you is that i am a very talanted artist/painter who has not created any new art in ten years, because of my all desires to create disappeared after my fatha and my mom died (i gues this is how i'm mourning their deaths)....so what advise can you give me to get back me in to the groove so i can continue my quest to be the next great artist to come from detroit .....
I'm sorry for your loss. Perhaps your next pieces can be a tribute to a single conversation that you had with them. One that seems odd that you would remember. I don't know all the answers but including my dads influence really helped me feel his presence. good luck and thanx for the love. Vinx

so glad you'll be at berklee this summer. colin and i will take you out to dinner( and Lisa if she's there). Colin called your manager concerning interning for you this summer. they're playing phone tag. love to you.
i'll follow thru, i'll be in Boston most of the summer working with him. thanx Vinx
KozettaWednesday, April 26th 2006 10:30AM
I received Grits & Pate in the mail yesterday and quickly loaded it onto my laptop and mp3. I am SO happy to have access to your voice throughout my work day. Makes everything all the more tolerable, I will tell you that. :>
I remain grateful for the introduction to your talent. I have come late to 'the party' but am dancing and bopping as enthusiastically, and with as much glee and gratitude, as your 'oldest' fan.
Vinx, now that I've 'discovered' you I wonder... would you like to become a megastar or do you like/prefer being an alternative/indie artist who is not pressured by fickle and trend seeking consumers and a money focused (versus art focused) music industry? I mean, can one maintain artistic and personal integrity and avoid censorship if one has been embraced by 'the masses'? Or, am I naive or too unaware to understand that there is no difference? What do you seek Vinx? ;)
you know Kozetta, I am not suppose to be a pop star and I'm good with that in my old age. Everybody is not going to get me. My father use to say to me, "the problem with being special is that only special people understand you". So I'll try to hang in there and make music that fills me. thanks for the love and spread the word... vinx
Vinx, Vinx, Vinx!! So glad to hear from you and know that you're doing well. The site is wonderful! The last time I heard you live, I came in halfway thru "Moondance", thinking someone was onstage trying to sound like Vinx. I shoulda known better!! But I did not expect you to be at what has become Organic Soul Tuesdays (run by Blackout Studios/James Collins of Fertile Ground) Baltimore's hottest open mic/independent artist spot. I see you'll be in DC in July. Please, please, please stop on by and I guarantee they'll be much love for you there. Keep the music flowin.
hook me up and I'll swing by, vinx

i'm so glad you included touch my heart on your cd-it makes me cry every time i hear it. you sang it by my request years ago at the iron horse. much love to you.
sometimes you don't think I listen, BUT I do hear you guys. thanx for the love Vinx
Earlier today I received "Grits & Pate" in the mail. After listening to the entire CD I must admit that I like Pate better than Grits. My favorite song is missing though. Where's "Moondance?" I guess if I had a large catalog... Please don't omit "Moondance" from your live performances. Deal?!
Hi Susan, most of the time I do moondance live. next time ask me and you got it... thanx for the love vinx
VinxThursday, April 20th 2006 3:39PM
When i was an athlete I always had music in my head a constant internal click/drum track. During practice and competition i ran with a tiny little bell on my right shoe lace.Iit always created a familiar cadence. Music is much more difficult than world class athletics. The difference between a correct Math answer or an opinionated creative writing professor. One has a right answer "be the strongest, be the fastest cross the line first you win". As an artist it is left up to some drunk guy in the back of a club shooting pool do decide if you are worthy. Like most champions in time of need or faced with that defining moment, I had to draw from my internal energy. That's the stuff you keep in your heart, (painful memories, love, heart ache, spite, ego, fear, fantasy, guilt, pride, anger, hate), all that emotional baggage that is usually uncontrolable. Good or bad it still carries a lot of power. Bad energy can be recycled and redirected. As an athlete I was able to go to that place and access that stuff, to go deep if you will. As an artist the initial process is the same. But instead of releasing the drama as a physical act, I only needed to artistically describe it.The way in is the same. Great athletes are artist. We share in many things. Thus we feel a kinship and identify with each other. We both share a stage with borders. We both endure critics when we stand too close to the edge. We share relationships with a blurred line between fans & friends. We are fed by the moment, by the challenge, by the exchange, by the inner story, by the expectations. We are invincible in our own worlds. As a world class sportsman and as a unique artist, I find comfort with my familiar demons and heroes in my heart. They are always there when I need them. Vinx
Larry LaBarTuesday, April 18th 2006 12:32AM
Vinx, I was at a conference the last time you came through New Hope, Pa. and played Havana. I am hoping that you are coming back to the Philadelphia area soon. I'm shootin' to get the new album. Those are some great tracks. I'm still pluggin' away at my own little dig...you are an inspiration to all of us "do-it-yourself" musicians. I still remember the words of wisdom you shared with me at The Point of Destination. Hope to see you soon.
Vinx, I received my very own set of "Grits & Pate" Saturday; I took it in my pocket to Hugh Masekela at the Hothouse, eager to hear it yesterday. Let me tell you, "Grits & Pate" is the strawberries on the cheescake that Mr. Masekela was! I love the "updates" of some cuts, and the older songs sound more vivid than before. There are a few songs I'm not familiar with, and they're fabulous. the whole collection will delight me almost as much as your next visit to Chicago!
glad you liked it. i made it for the true Vinx fan and me.... Vinx
Danielle & Greg in pittsburghFriday, April 14th 2006 12:26PM
We got Grits & Pate last week-it made us giddy! All of our favorites in one collection. Thank you. Loved "Row Da Boat Home" - the Water Drum Sample behind the track is one of our favorite percussion peices ever. The realization that it really was "that" water drum song was startling as we realized we could hear the women washing behind the vocal- a wonderful suprise in a perfect collection.
Hope to bring a gang to DC this summer!-We are still boycotting that dive you last visited- sorry doesn't begin to discribe how embarrassed we are for our city.
Hey Danielle and Greg long long time. I need a place in Pittsburgh, I have not given up on that city yet. it was small but I had a good time.... Vinx

Hey you! I think I waited too long to get the new CD...all over the website and the distributer's site it's listed as not available. Proud as hell of you if you already sold out. I'm slightly e-commerce illiterate, so am I missing something?? I wanted to tell you that I LOVE all the pics of you in the St. Louis Blues jersey. What's the connection there, and have you or are you gonna perform somewhere in the area?
Best to all. * I still want that house you showed me a pic of when we saw you at the Hothouse in CHI.
Hi Amy, it's not too late to get the CD. It will be re-stocked this weeke are selling more than I imagined. I am from Kansas City and ST. Louis is the closest team.If I can find a venue I'll play there. thanks for the support..... vinx

Currently conducting research from an existential phenomenological perspective on the experience of athletes using music before, during or after performance. Just finished a mansucript on hip hop music as a psychological enhancement to sports performance.
Would love to get your thoughts on the following:
Did you use/listen to music before during or after your athletic performances? Also, how different do you prepare mentally when performing on stage as to when you performed as an athlete? Lastly, any thoughts on the hip hop in sport phenomenon?
Thanks for your thoughts!!
Peace,
DC
PS My 4 year old can sing every word to the Captian's Song.....he loves it!!
Vinx

Hi Vinx, Great improvements to the website. It is easier on the eye and a better read. Congrats!! It's good to hear about your enthusiasm and new CD. I have all the old ones on cassette but will definitely buy this one with all your old songs and some new ones. I have followed your career and music since 1993 when I heard you "in the wee hours" on radio. You were an "unknown" then. I love your music, message and passion for what you do. Please come to Toronto, Canada more often. I know you have a Canadian following also and we would love to see and hear you more regularly. How about the Toronto Jazz Festival? Please put the "bug" in your manager's ear. Thanks for your inspiration and music!
i plan to tour more in North America this year so stay tuned to the site. i have a great time in T.O. Thank you for hanging in there all these years. vinx
The new site looks great, Vinx. Can't wait for new material and more touring so I can see you perform again. Since meeting you in that little hole in the wall pizza joint in Kalamazoo, Michigan so long ago, I've tried not to miss any opportunity to see you perform and I've shared your music with as many as I could. You have been an inspiration and a gift for the last 15 years, made all the more special by the gracious way you interact with your fans.
Hi Ed good to hear from you,, long time eh? I'll try book some shows in west MI (grand rapids and K-zoo around my next Chicago/Detroit shows. Stay in touch.... vinx

So glad to get caught up on your goings on through your new site! Love it! I remember listening to you Temporary Love, Tell My Feet demos on cassette at the Sweetzer gym. How time has travelled on...When will you be doing a Los Angeles show?
Hi Ann, you have known me for so long. How is your family? those tapes you heard were very different from now. You had the chance to hear me with a regular big rock/funk band. I miss those days when I had faith in the record companies and the industry. I should take my big belly back to the gym. take care dear... vinx

Vinx, please come back to Chicago soon....I missed you the last time you were in town...it would be great to see you at Hothouse again...that's a great place and their chocolate martinis are fantastic. I've been listening to you since I saw you in Bloomington, IL in '91 when you opened for Sting...and now my two young kids are into your groove! Thanks for sharing your music with us...
I hope to come back to Chicago in the fall when school starts so I can also play at some of the regional universities. see you out there, thanks for the memory lane..vinx
Of course you are my absolute favorite and I'm curious about your creative process. Does inspiration just hit your from all sides or do you set aside a finite amount of time each day or what? How does creativity get transfered from your head to the studio and then out to us? Thanks for sharing your talent with us.
Hi Regina, I create by remembering experiences. Sometimes it's a story sometimes a groove but mostly it's a melody. a soundtrck for that memory. because of my radio & TV background at Kansas State University, I can easily aim my musical opinion at any target. maybe thats why my music is all over the place. when I start with melody first I tend to keep the music sparse and out of the way. when i start with a groove the melody finds a place in between. the combination is usually lush and involved depending on the memory scene in my head. hope it all works even when its just the voice alone. thanks for digging a little deeper than the norm. Vinx

What about Jazz Fest in New Orleans? And thanks for the photos of Mozambique - the first one I got was you with Oliver Mtkudzi, just what you promised me in December.

Hey Alan - that one's called "Ugly Face" and it's the first track off of Jungle Funk which was a three man collaborative with VInx, Will Calhoun and.....someone....else...that I can't recall at the moment.
I always hated that song for leading off that album since it was so...well....ugly. It always seemed as though the album would have been much more enjoyable as a whole if it didn't get all in your face negative on that first song. However, Vinx gave it a whole new spin on Wednesday. The song is now officially funny!
I can't wait to get my hands on this 'Essentials' CD! I've worn out the three of yours that I have, and now they're no longer in print...WAAAAHHH I caught you at The Hothouse in Chicago, missed you at the Lyric in Arkansas, but I'll find a show again soon. Keep the tour dates coming. LOVE the new site, by the way.
I hope you can get your fix with the new CD. and Amy, thanx so much for the love.... Vinx

What a great show last night at Passim. Thanks so much for such an entertaining evening. I've been to a dozen or so shows in Toronto and Boston, and each one is more fun that the last. What was the name of that crazy "I can't stand your face" song? It just might become the next "cult hit" for me that way Choosy Mama did! Alan
Hi Alan it was great hanging with you after the show. I'll come around more often I promise.... Vinx

Hi Cheryl it was my honor to play with your son Colin. his future is so bright. good luck to you all.... Vinx
Ten years. Ten years that I've been listening to this music and only NOW do I see him live. I missed a couple other local shows before...never again.
That was AMAZING! That show was food for the soul. My face hurts from two hours of constant grinning. By far the best show I've ever seen ever.
So if you don't mind Vinx, come back next month so I can see another show?
Thanks.
Wim! MY BROTHER you keep me going ....thanx Vinx

Nuff Respect to the Master Musician, Vinx
You are a quintessential artist who continues to find new heights in balancing craft and creativity, virtuosity and storytelling in such an enjoyable way for all who have the honour of sharing your journey.
Your bio makes you even more intriguing and I would like to know if you have a plan to come to Jamaica anytime soon. Your sharing in the local music scene would be rewarding for all. I'm sure you've got contacts, but if you need, just say so and doors will be opened.

Hi Vinx,
Thanks so much for another amazing performance last night at Havana.

Vinx,
I saw you perform when you came to the Variety Playhouse in Atlanta, GA!
Love,

thank you, I needed that.

Took a friend of mine who had not been to one of yours and she promises to go with me every time you come local. Thanks Vinx for a good evening. L Y

Hi V:
I'm your new biggest fan.
I do my best. hang in there with me.

"Where are all my septembers, all my septembers, aaall my septembers now" –
Hey, hear you bumped into my dutch friend Corinne at some gig in NYC last week.

Hello
Just wanted to say that in the former eastern europe communist block one cannot easily get to any artist from the US or GB but 9 years ago I came across an artist named Vinx and have liked him very much with everything that a human has got from God to enjoy music and want to say that I am sure I never stop being moved by his music.
(Only if I could invite him for some Beatles-accoustic guitar session with Slivovitze next time he will be performing in PRAGUE)

Hey Vinx,
I've been a huge fan of yours since I was a DJ on my college radio station in '92.
Keep making the great music that you do,
Dave

I knew we had a great teacher -but his credibility just shot even higher! ;-)

You are an Olympic-trained athlete....get back to it. Try water aerobics, it's easier on your body in case running has caused you injuries and pain over the years.

My Dear Vinx,
I was troubled to hear about your recent health crisis.
With love,
Jo-Anne from Toronto, Canada
thank you Jo-Anne, your words did have an effect.... v

A bientot.

It happened again.
Vinxitis
UH! UH! UHUHUHUH!!! parts!

Hi Vinx,
I met you at the Lugano Jazz Festival back in '91 and when I met you in NYC a couple of years ago and mentioned it you, you said it was one of your favorite performances.

Dear Mr. Vinx,
after my recent question I turn to You with a request for advice and help.

Ta.

Caught you at the Jam for a Cure concert- I am sorry that there was such a poor turnout and multiple sound system problems. Just wanted you to know you had some diehard fans there! Look forward to seeing you again the next time you play in Atlanta. Take care- Melanie

At first, Greetings from Espoo Finland.
Ps. Sorry about my english....
Yours Risto Malinen, Espoo Finland
Hi Risto, how are things in Suomi? I love Finland I hope to come back to Pori Jazz soon.... I would love to find a nice intimate venue in Helsinki, any ideas? thanks for the love Vinx

Hi, Vinx-
I was so excited to see you will be in Georgia for the Jam for a Cure event. I am so glad I will get to see you perform again and for a great cause- haven't been able to see you since the Apache Cafe a few years ago.
Looking forward to it!

Warm regards,
Kurt Korfhage

Frog Island Festival, outside Ann Arbor, Michigan, early '90's. I too was a college jumper. We spent the evening talking about your music and your father and the fact that there were no arrests. I was a defense attorney in Detroit, now an actor/attorney in Detroit. You probably don't remember any of this, but your music has been with me all along, though it has been hard to keep up. I'll see you the weekend of the 18th in NYC.

Wim, this is a bit tardy, but I'm responding to your inquiry. I sing Vinx out loud walking down any street in Chicago, on the L train, wherever I am. I don't care if I can't sing or what anyone things of it - in fact, people give me disapproving glances often when I'm singing along with Vinx! Torn, Armida, Please come Back are the favorites, but all of them thrill me!
Can't wait for Sept. 8.
Chicago will be great...I promise.....Vinx

There was a jam session where he free-styled impromptu with the band and the
spoken-word artist that came on before him.
Porch Light is on again, later than usual--
Porch Light is on again, are you waiting for me?
Ah, now that's the stuff a grand show is make of!
Love You Vinx!
This Is why I make it do what it do. thanx for the love....Vinx

Mr. Vinx,
Some time ago I have seen, but chiefly heard a concert of Jungle Funk in
the city Uherske Hradiste in Czech Republic. It has been a phenomenal
experience for me, for which I am happy until these days - especially
the way and the style of your percussion play . And this is, with the
expressing of gratefulness, the reason why I am writing to you. If it is
not in secrecy or does not bother you, I would like to know which
musical instrument, technical device and sound effects do you use for
your play. My reason is very simple, while learning and playing the
Arabian percussions, I would like to use the opportunity of modern
technology and electronics. And it is your way of playing, that
fascinates me so much, that I presume to ask you for help. I shall be
honored to hear from you and appreciate any advice.
email me and I'll help you any way i can......vinx

aim ... i plan on attending the ann arbor show in sept. too -
and yes, i too have the guilty pleasure of belting out vinx tunes in my car. in fact, i like to say that vinx helped me obtain my masters degree. i was working full time, and traveling I-75 from downtown detroit to troy, mi (where the school is located). and if anyone knows rush hour traffic on 75 at that time of day, you know what i went through in terms of the time it took to get from point A to point B (whew!).
anyway, vinx was in the cd player (all day/everyday ... rotating the first 3 cds) and i was happily singing at the top of my lungs (windows shut people). pretending to harmonize in the background (thinking i sounded good, but you know ...)
made the commute so much more bearable, drivetime was nonexistent (i really think my car knew the way by that time, cuz sometimes it seemed as if i got to my destination without really doing anything consciously), and i would arrive relaxed and ready to meet the challenge of a night class, after a long day at work.
so vinx, thanx for the support. although you didn't know about it, you were right there with me, helping me with this tedious commute, and making life a lot brighter for me!
you get the honorary VINX DEGREE. put that on your resume...vinx

I'm just curious. I can't be the ONLY Vinx shower/car/office singer on this list.
What Vinx song are you most likely to be caught singing?
Where are you when you're singing? (and caught!) :D
I'm usually singing (or mangling depending on your sensibilities) Please Come Back, My All or Do Ya and will be either in the shower or the car.
I admit - both times I'm probably much too loud for my own good. :D Can't help it though, it's such good music!
So come on Vinxians - out with it - where do you sing it?
I sing on the toilet. and walking the dogs.....V

HOLD UP!
Teaches a class? Vinx? In my backyard?
Tell me more! How do I take it?!?!?!?!?!
hi Wim, make me blush. it has been interesting teaching. Vinx

May more come to us through you.
love on ya Wim....v

Hi,Vinx-
I absolutely love your new website!
Vinx

i have admired your talants on the mic along with you percussional skillsfor a long while now.
Vinx

So I'll try to hang in there and make music that fills me. thanks for the love and spread the word... vinx

Vinx

Louis is the closest team.If I can find a venue I'll play there. thanks for the support..... vinx

Hey Vinx:
I hope you are great. Give your wife props from me regarding your site....nicely done!!
Vinx

Hi Vinx,
Great improvements to the website.

I should take my big belly back to the gym. take care dear... vinx

Vinx

Hey, Vinx. Did you hear about the "Africa Live" concert, it began airing on PBS stations last night, but there is a 2 hour DVD available, too. Your buddy, Baaba Maal, and a bunch of other terrific musicians threw a benefit to "roll Back" malaria. Hope your local PBS station has it, betcha it's fabulous!

Fabulous new site! I'm glad you found a way to revive the "Buzzboard", so that evil intruders cannot take it over again, too! Vinx, I do hope you'll be back in Chicago soon, or at least nearby.

Vinx

So if you don't mind Vinx, come back next month so I can see another show?
Thanks.
